There are 2 situations, Just After Shot is already loaded or not. If Just After Shot is not yet loaded, Windows will display the usual autoplay dialog box, each time a new device or medium with pictures will be inserted.
You can select Just After Shot to view your images.
Unlike most other software compatible with Windows autoplay, Just After Shot searches for the most recent folder with pictures and not only the root folder of the device, usually empty.
As soon as you require Just After Shot, the software is open. The source folder is automatically filled up. The menu tool bar is positioned to the Actions bar.
If the software is already loaded and the medium or camera not yet inserted : Click the
The source is empty.
Insert now the media or the camera
The source path is now filled up with the most recent folder found
If the medium or camera is already inserted ; Click the small camera icon at the right end of the Source edit zone to browse your computer and select the source.
Now select the destination folder : Click the small folder button at the right end of the Destination folder to browse your computer and select the destination folder.
The Browse for folder dialog box is displayed. This dialog box offers some functions not available with the standard Windows navigation dialog box. A preview menu is attached to the folder bitmap displayed on the window title.
The minimum of settings are present and the Transfer arrow is now green colored.
But you can enhance the way the pictures will be transferred to your computer.
If you check the Launch Windows Explorer after copy, the program will launch the Explorer open at the Destination folder.
Renaming files is optional. If you wish to rename your pictures during the transfer process check the option Rename files.
You can choose between different formats :
You can select a separator. The separator is used to isolate each component (caption, number, date) of the title.
Then provide the caption. The same caption will be used for each picture and the number (if any) will be incremented. Of course you will be able to provide an individual title to each picture (see working with the session) The caption name can be used to create a sub folder with the same name just start the name with the usual folder separator \. When you exit the caption edit zone the caption title will be added to the destination folder and the \ remove from the caption. You can provide complex path to be created before copying files : \travels\Asia\Hong-Kong is a valid caption. Sub folders travels and Asia will be added to the destination folder; Hong-Kong will be used as title.
You can also format the number as you wish : select the number you wish to start the numbering, the length of the number, the character for padding the number. Optionally you can keep the number generated by your camera.
All pictures are shown in thumbnails.

This will be detailed in the Working with session chapter, but one useful function is to burn your pictures on a CD or DVD. II is interesting to burn now before changing something. Doing a backup now you will keep safe the original picture. You can keep a CD/DVD with original pictures and a second CD or DVD burned after modifying and organizing them (see menu item Session).
As soon as the Transfer button is green you can process to the transfer from the camera or sticky memory to your computer.
When the transfer has been done a session has been created and added to the session list. A new tab is now available.
From the image tab you can access pictures one by one.
Picture is displayed in an image editor. See the Image editor chapter.
From the green check mark
