You can select Just After Shot to view your images.

Unlike most other software compatible with Windows autoplay, Just After Shot searches for the most recent folder with pictures and not only the root folder of the device, usually empty.

Quick access       : you can access quickly to the usual My Pictures folder or to the defined Repository
Save as repository : the current selected folder is saved as the Repository. The Repository is the main root folder used to store your pictures. The My Pictures folder can be used as Repository.  Once a folder is defined as a repository it will be proposed automatically as a destination folder. It is recommended to create repository sub folder to store your pictures. You will see how Just After Shot will help you to do it.
Backup destination : we will see later the use of the Backup destination

The minimum of settings are present and the Transfer arrow is now green colored.

But you can enhance the way the pictures will be transferred to your computer.

The Options tab : from this page you can
define what to do if the image already exists on the destination folder : file can be overwritten, skipped or renamed.
set the date : the usual Windows copy tool stamps the files with the date of the copy. With Just After Shot you can choose the date of the original file (recommended), the today date and time. If your camera settings was not correctly set up and the file date is erroneous you can provide a date (and time). You can also use the Exif date if you import already copied files.
when to inject the Exif data (if defined) : if you are transferring pictures directly from camera or from a memory stick reader it is recommended to inject the Exif data after copy.

If you check the Launch Windows Explorer after copy, the program will launch the Explorer open at the Destination folder.

The Rename tab : the Rename is one of the most interesting feature proposed by Just After Shot.

jas_015

Renaming files is optional. If you wish to rename your pictures during the transfer process check the option Rename files.

You can choose between different formats :

Caption + number
Number + caption
Caption + number + date
Number + caption + date
Caption + date

You can select a separator. The separator is used to isolate each component (caption, number, date) of the title.

Then provide the caption. The same caption will be used for each picture and the number (if any) will be incremented. Of course you will be able to provide an individual title to each picture (see working with the session)

The caption name can be used to create a sub folder with the same name just start the name with the usual folder separator \. When you exit the caption edit zone the caption title will be added to the destination folder and the \ remove from the caption.

You can provide complex path to be created before copying files :

\travels\Asia\Hong-Kong is a valid caption. Sub folders travels and Asia will be added to the destination folder; Hong-Kong will be used as title.

You can also format the number as you wish : select the number you wish to start the numbering, the length of the number, the character for padding the number. Optionally you can keep the number generated by your camera.

The filter tab : see next lesson

The session tab :

All pictures are shown in thumbnails.

This will be detailed in the Working with session chapter, but one useful function is to burn your pictures on a CD or DVD. II is interesting to burn now before changing something. Doing a backup now you will keep safe the original picture. You can keep a CD/DVD with original pictures and a second CD or DVD burned after modifying and organizing them (see menu item Session).

As soon as the Transfer button is green you can process to the transfer from the camera or sticky memory to your computer.

When  the transfer has been done a session has been created and added to the session list. A new tab is now available.

The Image tab :

From the image tab you can access pictures one by one.

Picture is displayed in an image editor. See the Image editor chapter.
