Using Just After Shot

Top  Previous  Next

The session is the cornerstone of Just After Shot. Basically a session is a collection of pictures stored in the same folder. A session can't contain pictures stored in different folders but the same picture can be belonged by more than one session. Typically a session is composed by pictures just shot (e.g. The wedding of my best friend, My visit to grandma, My travel through Europe...)

The goal of building a session is to process quickly operations on pictures : moving pictures from camera to computer, renaming files, quick fix pictures,  inject Exif data...Of course session is created automatically. You can create a session from an existing folder or request an entire drive scan to create sessions from folders containing pictures.

You can also create a session from an existing session, if you wish, by example, to select and email some pictures to a friend.

The classic way to use Just After Shot is

1.connect your camera to your computer or insert the memory card into a card reader.
2.Select Just After Shot in the  autoplay dialog displayed by Windows when you connect your camera or any device containing pictures.

3. set up a destination folder (you can define a repository and sub folder will be created automatically)

4. optionally selecting a rename title and format

5  optionally define some Exif data to be injected

6. Click the Transfer tool bar button to accomplish the task.

Of course the Microsoft Scanner and Camera Wizard coming with Windows XP can copy your pictures from your camera to your computer. unfortunately it is the beginning of the chaos, because files are stamped using the current date and time and not with the original date and time. Just After Shot lets you to select the date you wish including one you provide (useful if your camera date was not correctly set up).

Once the transfer has been done, a session is created. Session is automatically numbered but you can give it a nickname.

Later you can reload the session to process and fix some pictures. With a single click you can remove red eyes, or rotate at once more than one picture.

Maybe you need to send some pictures included in this session to friends. With Just After Shot it is really easy and fast. As you know sometimes the size of the pictures is a real problem for sending emails. The email disk quota can be quickly reached with just some high definition pictures. With Just After Shot you can easily resample the selected shots, create automatically a new session with the resampled images, zip the new session and email it to a friend.

With Just After Shot you can also acquire pictures from your scanner. You can digitalize your old paper photos. Digitalized pictures can be added in a session and you can add Exif data and access to all functions.

The other important side of Just After Shot is to keep safe all your pictures. We have been afraid by computer users who stored all their pictures on an external hard drive without any backup. Soon or later the hard disk will crash. Just After Shot lets you to back up your pictures to a CD/DVD and/or to any internal, external or network drive. In addition, if you can access to an FTP server, you can upload your pictures. Just After Shot can create automatically sub folder on the server and a text file with some comments you provide.
